The Great Alpine Roast

To coincide with the 2011 Roast Collection (part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival),
hotel and restaurant operators along The Great Alpine Road have announced a series of gourmet
roasts commencing on the 25th June and running throughout July.

“The Great Alpine Roast” will feature fresh Gippsland produce, transforming the humble roast into a gourmet delight.

Set amongst stunning scenery, lunch at Nullamunjie Olive Grove (June 25th) will launch the series.
The menu (prepared by Tennille Mee and her team) will include local Grassvale rump beef, Capra goat’s cheese brushetta
and local venison with cool climate wines from nearby Ensay Winery to accompany each course.

Different venues along The Great Alpine Road will host the series throughout July:
  • Bullant Brewery, Bruthen - 2nd July
  • Albion Hotel, Swifts Creek - 9th July
  • Various venues, Dinner Plain - 16th July
  • Ensay Winery, Ensay - 23rd July

Tennille, the award winning chef of the Albion Hotel, is eager to make the Great Alpine Roast an annual event.

"This is a fantastic way to promote the vast array of food and wine that is available in East Gippsland.
There is no better way to enjoy winter touring along the Great Alpine Road than by
stopping to enjoy a fantastic gourmet roast,” Tennille said.
